General Purpose of the Position

Responsible for performing research in tax related matters (PR and USA) for the projects assigned.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Prepare tax consulting projects.
  2. Prepare and/or review of local, state and federal Income Tax Returns, Volume of Business Declarations, Property Tax Returns and other statutory tax filings for individuals, corporations and partnerships.
  3. Draft tax opinions and provide advice to clients on diverse tax matters, including tax aspects of corporate reorganizations, commencement of operations, and corporate liquidations.
  4. Assist managers in the preparation of new engagement/project budgets, billing analysis, budget vs. actual analysis and other administrative duties.
  5. Prepare and review of tax accruals and tax review memos for corporate clients.
  6. Represent clients before government agencies by drafting, submitting and defending ruling requests, drafting of closing agreements and representation at administrative hearings before the Puerto Rico Department of the Treasury, the Internal Revenue Service and various municipalities.
  7. Build client relationships and manage client expectations
  8. Research various tax issues, prepare related memorandum and provided clients with corresponding tax advice.
  9. Make sure projects run as planned; keeping client needs fulfilled and achieving the projected results.
  10. Perform other duties related as requested by supervisor.

Education, Training and/or Experience Required

This position requires a BBA in Accounting; or four (4) years of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Master or Law Degree in Taxes is highly desirable. 

Language, Skills and Knowledge

Must project a mature, well-balanced personality. Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.  Ability to work with several projects at a time and have attention to detail.

Must be a person of high ethical standards. Impeccable manners, punctuality, reliability, attention to detail and empathy are critical success factors.  Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc) is needed. 

Reasoning Abilities

The incumbent must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Also, able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. To be capable of interpreting an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Also, apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, and to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

The position requires normal physical effort when standing, talking, seating, walking, and/or using office equipment. 

Work Environment

This position usually performs in an office environment under normal conditions and exposition to moderate noises.
