PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:

Tax Associate Staffs are responsible for preparing tax returns and work papers, coordinate information needed for tax return preparation in coordination with the senior associate/manager, processing notices from governing agencies, tax authorities, perform tax research of tax matters, keeping abreast of tax changes   and keeping an open line of communication with assigned Clients and Supervisors. Will assist with other responsibilities as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for the preparation of State and Federal tax returns for individuals, estates, trusts, partnerships, corporations, and various types of entities in both the United States and Puerto Rico.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with clients, agencies and all those having business with the company.
  • Effectively builds relationships and shares knowledge and skills with coworkers to encourage a culture of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Assists Tax Seniors in coordinating client projects.
  • Deals with governmental agencies to address tax related matters as needed.
  • Assist with registration of new business with all applicable governmental agencies.
  • Assist managers or directors on proposals and engagement letters.
  • Maintains accurate and current records for all assignments.
  • Charges all hours appropriately.
  • Actively participates in in-house learning and training sessions.
  • Participates as an active peer mentor to new hires or interns.
  • Assist with tax consultation matters as requested by the tax senior or manager.
  • Maintain adequate work papers and documentation for all work done, including GFR filing following proper Firm guidance.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by the tax senior or manager.
  • JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Bachelors’ degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred. Has expert knowledge of accounting and tax laws and regulations.
  • Stays current on all tax laws, regulations and guidance issued by the Puerto Rico Treasury Department, the Internal Revenue Service, and other governing agencies.
  • Has prior experience as a Tax Associate or in a related position.
  • Is proficient with tax & accounting programs and software, including Microsoft applications.
  • Is a self-starter who works efficiently, remains attentive and completes assignments with little to no supervision.
  • Is able to prioritize and manage time proficiently.
  • Has expert analytical, research and problem-solving skills
  • Is curious about the client’s industry and operations. Assumes responsibility for his/her own learning and ask for help as needed.
  • Possesses strong verbal, oral and written communication skills both in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to work with other team members from different backgrounds.
  • Manage various clients’ projects at the same time.
  • Demonstrates ethical and professional behavior in all matters.
  • May be required to pass criminal background check.
